4 Tips to avoid consumerism
We know this is a delicate subject, so here are some tips on how to avoid consumerism.
1. Understand the reason behind each purchase
When you are about to buy an item, think about whether you are making the purchase because you really need the product (or whether you are going to take advantage of the service) or whether you are just trying to alleviate your anxiety, frustration, or even stress.
2. Separate the "want" from the "need"
Well, talking about the example of supermarkets, we all know that they use a great technique to make us spend more, this technique consists of leaving the essentials, known as milk, bread... as far away as possible, for customers to pass by all other products that may or may not be on sale. Always try to think to yourself if you really need this product or service.
3. Plan your purchases
Planning is an important ally against consumerism and anxiety shopping. Before leaving home or accessing e-commerce, plan exactly what and where you are going to buy something and set a spending limit on that purchase. You can also get into the habit of making a small shopping list, then following that list to the letter.
4. Try collaborative consumption
In this system, people share, exchange, lend and rent the product instead of buying, thus focusing on access to goods and services and leaving aside the possession of materials and excessive purchases.
